The Fool

Posted on: April 20, 2012

Your overall life begins at – the beginning! The beginning in tarot, is represented by the Fool card. It is often called the card of the “Fool’s Journey”. What does this mean? Imagine starting out into the unknown. Imagine that even though you’re naive, you still manage not to get hurt. This is the “Fool’s Journey” in a nutshell. It also represents innocence and youth.

To sum it up, it can be viewed as venturing into the unknown and avoiding danger or setbacks. It represents the beginning of a journey on any path – work, love, friendships, dreams, and more.

How does one avoid the danger or setbacks? One avoids it by recognizing that one is already armed with inner knowledge to keep safe. In other words, listen to your voice within, your common sense, your gut feelings you inner essense/spirit. These you’re born with and are just about all you take into each life with you. This will keep you safe on the journey of life.

The card is often depicted with a young man with a wooden staff on his shoulder and he is holding a tied bag of all his belongings. The image is somewhat to how homeless people were described in the early 1900s. He is about to walk off a cliff, but is unaware of it. To his side is a faithful dog. The bag, which is all he owns on this journey, represents his inner knowledge that will keep him safe. The dog also represents safety because surely the dog will warn him about the cliff. After all, the card does not depict the Fool as actually falling over the edge!

All is well on your new journey.

In relation to astrology, I believe this card is best represented by Aries. Aries is the first in the zodiac. It is the beginning.

Introduction

This site explains the meaning of each of the tarot cards and how to read them.

We’ll work with one card at a time so we can give in depth information.

Our background involves nearly 30 years experience in the study and reading of cards. We study and follow the practices of taoism, bhuddism, numerology, astrology, dream interpretation and more. We'll go into astrology, numerology, taoism and other religions/beliefs, but this will be limited to the extent these various fields have on tarot card interpretation.

The order of the lessons will be fairly random. A good place to start is with the major arcana cards and then move onto each suit of the minor arcana cards. Take a look at the tags for major arcana information.
